What is Sugaring?
Sugaring is a technique and a product used to remove facial and body hair. The technique is called Mold and Flick, while the product combines sugar, lemon juice or citric acid, and water. The sugar product can be made at home or by a distributor.
“Molding” is the application of the sugar ball onto the skin, opposite the direction of the hair growth. Molding the sugar is done one to three times to help the sugar get deep into the hair follicles. “Flicking” is a quick, fluid hand and wrist movement done parallel to the skin removing sugar, hair, and dead skin cells. The idea is to mold the sugar onto the skin where it lifts the hairs to allow the sugar to seep into the hair follicles, loosening the roots, follicles, and hair. When the sugar is flicked the molding allows all parts of the hairs to come out in one movement.
Sugaring done consistently over many years can lead to hair management, patchy spots due to root damage, and lack of melanoma in the hair. Sugaring can also be done on clients with sensitive skin, ex-diabetics, or if you are prone to ingrown or razor bumps. Although sugaring can be done every two weeks, I prefer every three to five weeks at first, and as the hair lessens, it can be done every six to eight weeks. It will exfoliate the skin and the hairs will grow much finer and softer.
Sugaring is a gentler alternative to hair removal and can be a wonderful self-care service. The sugaring process helps clients who sweat excessively due to mass amounts of hair on the body, clients who like to feel clean and fresh, and clients who do not like hair. Sugaring, unlike waxing, is not hot, so it does not irritate the skin as much. Sugaring is great for anyone who wants to regain control of their body hair, is tired of shaving, does not like waxing, or is just plain tired of thinking about their uncontrollable body hair.
If you're interested in sugaring, go to a professional, and if you don’t like that Sugarist or their technique, try another one. I hope you find someone to sweeten your day and shed some hair!
