Where did sugaring come from?
Sugaring is an ancient Egyptian art form that dates back to 332 B.C. Sugaring also known as sugar waxing, Halawa in Greece or Sukkar in Egypt, Agda in Turkey and Moum in Iran. In many countries sugar paste is made at home, over the stove and performed inside the home by mothers, aunts and grandmothers.
What is the purpose of the lemon juice in the sugar paste?
Lemon juice acts as a glue to bind the water and sugar together making it a paste.
What does Mold Sugaring specialize in?
Mold Sugar specializes in female and male brazilians as well as supporting and educating our clients with any skin care issues they may be experiencing in intimate areas, for example ingrown hairs.
What is the difference between waxing and sugaring?
In my opinion, there are 3 big differences:
Temperature
Sugar is room temperature and wax is hot to the touch.
Ingredients
Wax is made up of tree resin or honey while sugar paste is made up of lemon juice, water, and sugar.
Technique
The waxing technique is done by applying the wax product with a stick. The technician places the wax onto the skin in the direction of the hair growth and removes the wax in the opposite direction.
With sugaring, the sugar product is melted into the skin against the direction of growth, forcing the sugar into the hair follicle, loosening up the hairs and with a quick flick technique, removes all the hair including the bulb.
what are The benefits of sugaring?
There are many! Here are some of my favorites:
Sugar paste is biodegradable and uses less disposable materials than waxing.
Sugar is water based and comes off the skin, hair, clothes, etc. with warm water.
It’s completely natural and edible! You can eat the sugar or put it in your tea (unused of course!).
Per my own experience and others, sugaring is less painful than waxing.
If done correctly and consistently, sugaring can slow the hair growth cycle.
Sugaring can change the texture of the hair making it softer and finer.
Can sugaring be done all over the body?
Yes, sugaring can be done all over the face and body except for the top of the head and beards on men. Mold Sugar focuses on the face, torso and genitalia. In my opinion, sugaring is better for the face and genitalia since those areas are more sensitive.
How long does it take for my hair to grow back?
For some clients, after one sugar experience, the hair will not grow back for at least 2 weeks. For some it takes 4 weeks to grow back, it all depends from person to person!
Why do I have patchy areas of hair weeks after getting sugared?
Hair grows in 3 phases; anagen, telogen and catagen. This means your hair on the body and face grow in at different times. The best time to remove hair via sugaring is in the anagen stage. This stage is the active growth phase and is when the hair is strongest. By removing hair at this stage, it weakens the next hair that will grow in.
When a client is consistent with sugaring, eventually the hairs will get on the same hair growth cycle where they will then grow in and be removed all together.
Does sugaring cause permanent hair loss?
Sugaring can cause permanent hair loss, however it takes consistent visits for at least one year to see results. Some people will not ever have permanent hair loss, instead they will be able to gain control over unruly and unwanted hair.
What after care products can I buy at Mold Sugar?
Mold Sugar sells soaps, chemical and physical exfoliates, and serums for the face and body.
I’m nervous and not sure I can handle a full brazilian?
Don’t worry, you’re not alone! It’s very common for people to be nervous during their first sugaring visit and anxious for those appointments there after. I recommend you take it slow and start sugaring outside the bikini area and go inward or start with a smaller, less sensitive area like your armpits or anus.
My ultimate goal is for people to continue sugaring for hygiene purposes instead of being traumatized by the hair removal industry. I hope that people focus on the benefits of sugaring and the results verse one hair removal experience that caused trauma or pain. I want the benefits to be in the forefront of peoples mind instead of the pain.
