The History of Sugar Hair Removal
The history of sugaring comes from the Middle East with sugar hair removal originating in Egypt around 300 BC. Known as Body Sugaring, it was an ancient Egyptian Art Form done on women. In some Middle Eastern cultures, it signifies cleanliness, making women more desirable to men or the Pharaoh.
Sugaring can be done all over the face and body. Body Sugaring is mainly done on women, but is becoming popular among men. Clients who get sugared do not like hair on some body parts. For example, some people sugar their armpits and shave their legs. Sugaring is more challenging than shaving because, for sugaring to work, the client must grow their hair out for at least 21 days. The hair growth is necessary so the Sugarist can mold the sugar onto the skin, allowing the sugar to get into the hair follicles, ultimately coming out completely: follicles, roots, and hairs.
Sugar hair removal can work on all types of skin, especially sensitive skin. Unlike waxing, the sugar product is NOT hot. The temperature of the sugar product is about 98' F. Since sugaring is applied against the hair growth, sliding into the hair follicle and then flicked out with the hair growth, it causes less stress to the skin, creating less trauma to the area. The regrowth of hair becomes finer and softer since the hair prior was removed by the root, and with each new growth, the hairs weaken. Sugaring can be done on people with thin skin, diabetic skin, or someone who is sensitive to pain. Professional sugar hair removal should be done with an FDA-regulated sugar-distributing company.
Sugaring can hurt, and there are all types of ways to sugar. Sugaring should not be traumatizing. If it is, remember your skin is also being traumatized and it may be time to find another Sugarist. Hair removal with sugar is not always enjoyable in the moment, yet when the service is finished, many clients feel clean and free mentally and physically. Most sugar hair removal clients are average Jane and Joe's, not bodybuilders, models, or high-profile people. Hair maintenance is defined differently for many people, whether you color your hair or remove unwanted hair. The sugaring process gives clients a sense of peace for another four weeks or until next year. Some clients are consistent with their sugar visits, and some only come yearly, such as in summer or on vacation. People who have struggled with razor burn, in-grows with waxing, or pain from waxing, shaving, or laser hair removal should try sugaring.
I hope you find someone to sweeten your day and shed some hair!
