Mother’s Day Reflections

Mother’s Day reminds me of all the clients I have had over the years. Most of my clients are women and mothers. I’ve had moms visit me as grandmas who did not want to wear pantyhose to their grandbaby’s summer wedding. I have supported clients during major milestones like before their wedding day, before giving birth, and after having their first child.

This year will be my 13th year in business and some of my mom clients have been with me for at least 10 years,  if not my whole career. It's been nice to reminisce on why, and how often, mothers come to see me. Some only come for vacations, weddings, birth, summer pool time, camping trips, or going to Hawaii. Others see me on a regular basis. I’ve even had moms visit me after being referred to me by their daughter!

Some moms changed the direction of my career. When I first started my Spray Tan Business, I did house calls in San Francisco. In 2011, one client was a mother and her nanny walked out the door as I was walking in. I didn’t know what the client looked like and here I was stuck with two kids while she was on the phone. The only thing I knew to do was go look at the fridge with the kids to figure out who the client was. I unintentionally turned another mother orange due to using too much spray tan solution. That incident made me get my Spray Tan Certification by South Seas Skin Care, LLC. Julie Nostrand was the instructor and is currently the spray tanner for Dancing with the Stars. She is a wonderful educator and a mom. Julie and her company inspired me to keep going in the beauty industry and led me to my passion of sugar hair removal.

Moms remove hair from everywhere. The busiest time of year for me is April through August. I appreciate the mothers who come once a year because they are going to the pool or swimming with their kids. A lot of moms get their bikini line cleaned up and that is it. Kids can be a gentle reminder of the importance of self-care when the seasons change. I express to some moms it’s okay to come when you can, not when you think you have to. It’s beautiful to see moms when they’re going through pregnancy and the babies sometimes move in the belly during the appointment. I truly enjoy sharing in life events with my clients.

I hope to share with clients alike the importance of maintaining the hair that can distract you from other things in life. For example, if you can't shave your armpits due to razor burn, then try sugaring in the winter, when you are not wearing tank tops. Try sugaring as a form of exfoliant like on your legs. This can be good for people who feel like their legs always feel dry or dehydrated. Sugar not only removes hair, but it can also exfoliate the skin and be a form of skin maintenance. Since sugaring both exfoliates and makes the hair grow back softer and finer, your skin can get better when there is less hair to irritate it.

Have you ever thought about hair removal as a skincare treatment? Sugar hair removal can be a way of taking care of yourself on a monthly, quarterly, twice a year, or once a year basis. Sugaring can lighten a moms load by taking the task of shaving, tweezing, cutting, or scrubbing out of her daily routine, giving her more time to spend with her loved ones.

Thank you to all the moms who have been a constant in my business supporting my growth. I appreciate all my mom clients that understand how hard it is to run a solo business and find ways to support me. Happy Mother’s Day to all my clients who have given me a chance to sweeten their day over the years and have shared stories about their life and that of their families with me. I would not be where I am if it weren’t for moms
